Deep Groove Ball Bearings

Deep groove ball bearings are commonly used rolling bearings with a simple structure and convenient use. They are mainly used to bear radial loads, but when the flange height is increased and the radial clearance is enlarged, deep groove ball bearings exhibit some performance characteristics of angular contact ball bearings and can withstand certain axial loads. Compared to other types of bearings of the same size, deep groove ball bearings have a lower friction coefficient and a higher limiting speed. However, they are not resistant to impact and are not suitable for heavy loads.

　　After being mounted on a shaft, deep groove ball bearings can limit axial displacement in both directions within the axial clearance range of the bearing, allowing for bidirectional axial positioning. Additionally, these bearings have a certain self-aligning ability and can function normally when the inclination relative to the housing bore is between 2'~10”, although this may have some impact on the bearing's lifespan.

　　The majority of deep groove ball bearings have solid brass machined cages, but there are also those with solid steel cages and reinforced nylon 66 engineering plastic cages. Different cage materials are indicated by postfixes, as detailed in the "Materials for Rolling Bearings" section.

　　Axial Load Capacity

　　If a deep groove ball bearing needs to withstand pure axial loads, generally, the pure axial load it bears should not exceed 0.5Co. Excessive axial loads will greatly reduce the bearing's lifespan.

　　To ensure the proper operation of the bearing, a certain amount of radial load must be applied to the deep groove ball bearing, especially when operating at high speeds, high accelerations, or under conditions where the load direction changes frequently. Because under these conditions, the contact forces between the balls and the cage, as well as the friction within the lubricant, can adversely affect the bearing's rolling and rotational accuracy, leading to sliding between the balls and the raceways.

　　During startup at low temperatures or when the viscosity of the lubricant is high, it may be necessary to apply a larger radial load. Usually, the weight of the bearing supports itself plus the load borne by the bearing exceeds the required radial load. In practical applications, the axial preload can generally be adjusted by adjusting the relative axial position of the inner and outer rings or by using springs.
